I'll be making more wire wrapped gemstone jewelry from now on. It is a fun technique (though it can be a bit difficult when working with gemstones that are delicatedly drilled!) and I recently incorporated the process of giving the sterling wire an oxidized patina and then polishing to bring out the highlights (as seen in the earrings below).
